I grew up near Forest Lake, graduating high school from St. Francis High School in Minnesota in 1989. I have a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota with a major in Math Education. I have been a part of the LILA community since 2005 when my youngest child started 1st grade. I’ve volunteered in the classroom, participated on the School Board and the LILA Foundation board, served as co-yearbook advisor, and worked as a short-term substitute teacher. Our family moved to the Forest Lake area because of LILA. I love that my children have been taught with the International Baccalaureate philosophy and I am excited to work with the amazing staff here.

I’m from Madrid, Spain. I have a B.A. and M.A. in History from the Complutense University of Madrid. During my undergraduate program, I studied in Finland, which ignited my interest in living abroad and experiencing other cultures. Three years ago, I had the wonderful opportunity to serve as a Language Ambassador at LILA. Following my experience at LILA, I continued learning about the English language and teaching. I recently completed a master’s degree in education in Social Studies at the University of Minnesota. I’m excited to come back to LILA! In my leisure time, I enjoy working out and watching all kinds of series and documentaries.

At Luther College, a professor encouraged me to change my major to Art when I thought I was just fulfilling a fine arts requirement. This leap of faith has led me to where I am today, inspired my teaching, and I couldn't be happier. I received my master’s degree in Teaching and Learning at St. Mary’s and I taught art at Roseville Middle School and High School for many years. My family has moved to the Forest Lake area, and I am so glad that my children will continue to build on their bilingual education at LILA, as I know it will continue to open doors in their future. In my spare time, I enjoy time with my family and friends. I love to be outside, camping, yoga, a good book, coffee, dark chocolate, and cooking with my husband - just to name a few of my favorite things!

I began my teaching career in Pristina, Kosovo, where I taught high school social studies at the American School of Kosovo for four years. I earned my master’s degree in Educational Psychology from UW-Madison and began teaching at LILA last January. I am excited to be a part of the LILA community again this year!

I received my master’s degree in Adlerian Counseling and Psychotherapy with an emphasis in School Counseling from Adler Graduate School. I have my bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Wisconsin - Stout. Prior to LILA, I worked for five years at a school in downtown Minneapolis in a variety of roles, including school counselor. I am honored to be at LILA to help students achieve their academic goals. I’m looking forward to working collaboratively with staff and students to help students discover colleges or universities that fit their interests, choose high school courses that will help them achieve their dreams, and understand the benefits of enrolling in PSEO programs. It’s exciting to work at a school where staff members are dedicated to student success and teach students to think beyond themselves.

I am incredibly excited to be here! A graduate of Hamline University in May 2015, I have gained a wide variety of teaching experiences over the past few years. In addition to student teaching in the Anoka-Hennepin school district, I have been involved in substitute teaching, tutoring middle school students in Saint Paul, working in a continuing education program in York, England, and teaching night school and summer school. LILA’s approach to global education through inquiry-based learning is what first sparked my interest in joining this rich learning community, and I am thrilled to join the English department at LILA’s Upper School this year. I am committed to being a lifelong learner and believe that immersing myself and my students in texts from diverse perspectives will open our world views and inspire us. I look forward to getting to know each of my students in this coming year!

Bonjour, LILA students and families! I am from Stillwater, Minnesota, and attended the University of Minnesota - Duluth for two bachelor’s degrees, one in French Studies and the other in French Education. During this time, I lived and studied in Montpellier, France, for a semester. I completed my first year of teaching last year in Austin, Minnesota, as a long-term French substitute. After visiting LILA, I knew this was the place for me because of the positive attitudes, engaged students, and encouragement to trying new things. I love being outdoors, watching sports (hockey and football particularly!), doing yoga, and reading.

I was born and raised in the Twin Cities, and I am excited to move back to Minnesota to join LILA after a decade of teaching high school English in Darlington and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. In Myrtle Beach, I taught senior IB English courses for 5 years at Socastee High School. After that, I knew I wanted to continue to be a part of the IB programme. My students use diverse texts to more deeply understand ourselves and others through different lenses. The traits highlighted in the IB Learner Profile are present in literary characters, too! I graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park; I've lived in Sydney, Australia, and traveled to Canada, England, Ireland, Taiwan, and many U.S. states. I love to read, travel, bake, play Scrabble, listen to music, and learn. My husband, my daughter, my cat Frida (named for painter Frida Kahlo), and I live in Lino Lakes.

I grew up in the little old German town of New Ulm, Minnesota. I attended Martin Luther College in New Ulm and attained my degree and license for teaching high school mathematics. I then completed my master’s degree in May 2016 in Mathematics Education for 5-12 grades through Western Governor’s University. I have had numerous student teaching experiences, including working with grades 5-8 at Siloah Lutheran in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; grades 9-12 at St. Croix Lutheran in West St. Paul, Minnesota; and grades 7-8 at Redwood Falls Public School in rural Minnesota. I was drawn to LILA because of the philosophy of the school. I will challenge my students to think critically and solve today’s problems through a teaching style that encourages students to work as a community of learners, working for a better and brighter tomorrow. I feel so blessed to be part of this beautiful, innovative school!

Hello all! I grew up in the Twin Cities area where I received my International Baccalaureate diploma from Robbinsdale Cooper High School in New Hope, Minnesota. I then received my B.A. in instrumental music education from the University of Minnesota - Duluth. While there, I had the amazing opportunities to travel to Panama and Cuba with my college chamber orchestra in addition to spending 7 weeks teaching music at the Danila Kumar IB school in Ljubljana, Slovenia. I believe that forming a global perspective is critical for preparing our students for the changing society of tomorrow!

I was raised in Eau Claire, Wisconsin and pursued my passions for teaching at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, where I studied Health and Physical Education with a minor in Adapted Physical Education. My first year of teaching was within an alternative center for high school students in the Twin Cities. I have coached youth and high school hockey and soccer. I became interested in LILA because of how unique and innovative the programs are and how passionate many of the staff are here! I look forward to working with the students, staff, families, and community members in order to create a safe, fun, and healthy learning community.

I graduated from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and I’m ready to join LILA as a world language teacher. I am from Valparaíso, Chile, where I completed most of my high school. Then I went to United World College of the Adriatic, an IB school, in Duino, Italy for 2 years before I moved to the United States in 2012. My student teaching positions included the United World College USA in Montezuma, New Mexico, and Willow Creek Middle School in Rochester, Minnesota. I have also had internships at Decorah High School in Decorah, Iowa, Logan Middle School in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and Oelwein High School in Oelwein, Iowa. This summer I am a camp counselor at Concordia Language Villages, specifically at Lago del Bosque where I have been gathering many ideas to implement in my classroom. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone at LILA!

I am from northwest in Hubei Provence, which is famous for its hundreds of lakes in China, just like the state of Minnesota. I grew up with many kinds of historical legends and imaginative fairy tale books. I chose Chinese teaching field as my career after I finished my gap year trips in Europe in 2012. After that I taught Chinese in Thailand and Ethiopia for 2 years. I believe that language is the key to exploring and understanding our world. I will try my best to help students make progress in learning Chinese and I hope my work may bring pleasure to your life and your family!

I am truly excited to be the new Theatre/Dance teacher at LILA’s Upper School! I am from Saint Paul, Minnesota. I received my B.A. in Theatre from Concordia University in 2007, my MBA from Concordia University in 2013, and I am currently working on a second Masters in Teaching Theatre and Dance from Hamline University. I have experience teaching both dance and theatre at schools around the Twin Cities. I was also the Theatre Director of Drama Club at a middle school for three years. I am excited to bring my experiences to LILA and it is my hope that I can learn and grow as much as the students will. Outside of school, I love spending time with my husband and our two children, reading, practicing yoga, directing theatre productions, and, of course, dancing like no one is watching.

I am from Zhangzhou, China. I received my B.A. in physics education at Zhangzhou Teaching College. After teaching high school physics for three years, my family moved to Minnesota because my husband came to work as a researcher at the U of MN. I love teaching science and being with students. To continue my teaching career, I attended the Science Education program at the University of Minnesota and I now hold a Minnesota teaching license and an M.A. in Science Education. Working at LILA gives me the opportunity to share more about my culture and help students to become more creative, reflective global learners. I am excited to start the new school year with my science learners. Ready? We all will be amazed as we appreciate the beauty of science.
